Cross laminated timber is subject to both in-house and third-party monitoring, as are most approved products. All adhesives used for applications with cross laminated timber elements are approved by building authorities. The manufacturing company must, in addition, have obtained a general Certificate of Competence for gluing, and verification of suitability for gluing load-bearing timber components (so-called glulam certification) in accordance with DIN 1052, Appendix A.
The in-house production monitoring includes checking of the source raw materials, checks and inspections during manufacturing in addition to verifications and tests on the finished structural product, including
- determination of rolling shear strength
- checking of finger joint bending strength and
- delamination tests for monitoring of gluing.
