Fire protection

Cross laminated timber construction components are classified according to their building control usability proof (abZ (Building control permits) and/or ETA) of the building materials B2 according to DIN 4102-1 and/or the fire behaviour class D-s2,d0 according to EN 13501-1. The European classification system thus regulates, in addition to the combustion behaviour, side effects of fire, smoke emissions (s1, s2, s3) and burning drips (d0, d1, d2). These classifications relate, in spite of the additional glue contingent in the construction components, to solid wood and board layered wood. By means of the corresponding surface laminations or an impregnation of the floor layers, flame resistant construction component surfaces can be achieved where required.

If requirements to the fire resistance of lined or unlined cross laminated timber elements were placed, the proof of the necessary construction component properties would result via manufacturer specific building control applicability proof. The basis for this is experimental fire testing or calculated proof on the basis of DIN 4102-22 and/or DIN EN 1995-1-2 by means of the determined combustion rate of the construction component cross section.

Therefore, depending on the manufacturer, a multitude of tested specific construction structures for the building control required fire resistance classes, up to 90 minutes of fire resistance on the basis of national and European standards, are available.
